Description

CANADA. Dominion of Canada. 2 Dollars, 1897. DC-14c. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.

Printed by ABNC. Printed signature of T.C. Boville at right with hand-penned countersigned signature at left. An exemplary example of this 1897 2 Dollar note which offers breathtaking appeal. The majority of 2 Dollar notes from this series are usually encountered in the Very Fine level, with Gem examples being unheard of. Collectors will finally have a chance today to upgrade to this flashy Gem example. The portrait at left is of Edward VII, the Prince of Wales, who would later rule as King of the United Kingdom from January 22nd, 1901 until his death on May 6th, 1910. At center is a small boat containing fisherman spearing fish. Emanating from the central design is a dark green rayed design. At right is a "2" counter surrounded by an intricately lathed design in dark black ink. The border design is made up of dark ink showcasing lovely ornate details as typical of ABNC notes of the era. The margins offer plentiful paper which in itself is quite bright. The back of the note shows a central vignette of farmers with "Dominion of Canada" emblazoned above the vignette with stylized "Two Dollars" below. The vignette is flanked at left and right by ornate counters, with the design being compromised of dark brown ink. PMG Pop 1/1 Finer.

Estimate: $20000.00-$30000.00
