42 mm. Unawarded. Obv: Ships in combat, inscription around WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND THEY ARE OURS / LAKE ERIE / SEP.10th 1813, signed LOVETT, N.Y. along exergual line at left. Rev: Inscription TO / / BY RESOLUTION OF / THE / KENTUCKY / LEGISLATURE / FEB.11th. 1860 within an oak and laurel wreath. Like the much earlier Pennsylvania State U.S. Mint medal, this was authorized by the state's legislature as a gesture towards the participants in the battle who came from Kentucky. Six of the original Kentucky sailors were still alive when this medal was issued 47 years after the battle.
