1796 Liberty Cap Cent. S-91. Rarity-3. VF-35 (PCGS).
The 1796 Liberty Cap is a scarce transitional issue in the early large cent series, represented here by an attractive mid grade example. Warm antique copper patina blankets surfaces that are pleasingly smooth in hand for the assigned grade. Even close inspection with a loupe reveals only light pitting in isolated areas and a few trivial handling marks scattered about. Softness in the lower left obverse field and at the upper left reverse border is due to die state, most design elements boldly rendered with the overall design fully appreciable. Sure to see spirited bidding among early copper enthusiasts.
