1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 9-S, W-6765. Rarity-6. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. VF-20 (PCGS).
A challenging die variety that was missing from several major Fugio collections including Ford. Called Rarity-7 until recently and it is undoubtedly in the middle to upper range of Rarity-6. This pleasing mid-grade example could potentially be included in the Condition Census for the variety which includes two Mint State coins (one in ANS), two AUs, and then VFs. The golden-olive surfaces are just barely microporous and show no marks or flaws worthy of mention. Good fullness of detail and decent centering, the obverse just missing part of BUSINESS, but that detail is weak on this variety anyway. A significant find for the Fugio specialist.
