Description

1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 56-n, W-5310. Rarity-1. Camel Head--Overstruck on a 1788 Connecticut Copper--Extremely Fine, Tooled.

125.77 grains. An overall sharp example with a well centered strike, the boldest denticulation confined to the lower half of the reverse. Original medium brown surfaces are hard and tight, although concentrations of scratches in the left obverse field and on the reverse over and around the shield explain our qualifier. Traces of the undertype are discernible with patience, and with the aid of a loupe, the most significant feature in this regard a legible 1788 from the undertype at the lower obverse border before the New Jersey copper date.

PCGS# 515.

Collector envelope with attribution notation included.

Estimate: $800.00
