1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 11-G, W-4510. Rarity-2. Mailed Bust Left. AU-50 (PCGS).
119.8 grains. A lovely Connecticut copper with extraordinarily choice surfaces and color. Smooth, hard, slightly frosty surfaces that are an ideal chocolate brown with lighter tan in the protected areas. There are absolutely no marks or areas of roughness and just a trace of light wear on the highpoints. The obverse is nicely centered; on the reverse just a small portion of the letters and the top of the seated figure's head are affected by a slightly off center strike and small planchet clip. Rare quality and eye appeal for the type and date.
PCGS# 687263.
From our (Stack's) sale of October 1988, lot 437. Robert M. Martin collector envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.
