Barber Dime
1893-O Barber Dime. MS-66+ (PCGS).
Exceptionally vivid toning blankets both sides of this gorgeous premium quality Gem. The obverse features rose-orange and reddish-russet around a golden-olive center, while the reverse is dressed in mottled powder blue and reddish-gold over a base of antique silver-gray. Both sides exhibit a smooth satin finish with uncommonly sharp striking detail for a New Orleans Mint Barber dime. After a generous output of 3,841,700 pieces in 1892, the Louisiana branch mint produced only 1,760,000 dimes in 1893. Yearly mintages from this coinage facility remained limited through 1897, and all O-Mint dimes of the 1893 to 1897 era are scarce key date issues that are rare in the finest Mint State grades.
