Massachusetts Cent
1788 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 15-M, W-6400. Rarity-5-. Period After MASSACHUSETTS. VF-20 (PCGS).
142.0 grains. A satiny and hard, medium olive-brown example with some nice gloss also evident to the surfaces. Wispy handling marks are few and far between, although a minor concentration is noted at the middle of the bow before the Native American's waist. A shallow pit in the same area is also noted, as are a few extremely minor flan flaws on the reverse at the tip of the eagle's right wing. A scarcer variety that was unknown to Ryder and is generally represented in collections today by a Fine or occasionally Very Fine specimen, frequently with problems. This one is nicer than many seen and is sure to catch the eye of specialists.
