Massachusetts Cent
1787 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 2b-A, W-6040. Rarity-2. Arrows in Left Talon, Horned Eagle. VF-25 (PCGS).
139.0 grains. Blended olive-copper and medium brown patina blankets both sides of this handsome piece. There is plenty of good gloss, the surfaces free of sizeable marks or other significant blemishes. The lower right reverse is a tad soft, but otherwise we note universally bold VF detail throughout the design. This is the popular Horned Eagle Guide Book variety of the 1787 Massachusetts cent, so named due to the prominent die break on the reverse at the top of the eagle's head. Plentiful in an absolute sense, yet always in demand.
