Pine Tree Threepence
1652 Pine Tree Threepence. Noe-34, Salmon 1-A, W-630. Rarity-4. Pellets at Trunk. Very Fine, Peeling Lamination.
15.9 grains, total weight. An intriguing example of both the type and variety, the planchet is significantly flawed with a large lamination just above center on the obverse. A sliver of the planchet weighing approximately 0.31 grains has broken away from the rest of the coin, in fact, and is included as part of this lot. The coin is originally toned in even steel-gray, the surfaces untroubled for the assigned grade apart from the aforementioned planchet flaw. The strike is a bit off center to the right obverse, left reverse, and isolated features along the opposite borders are also somewhat soft. Most design elements are at least partially discernible, however, and the central design elements are bold where the lamination allows. An interesting piece with much to recommend it to the specialist in Massachusetts Bay Colony silver. (Total: 2 pieces)
