1904 Volunteer Life Saving Corps, New York State Branch Three-Piece Hanging Badge. Sterling Silver. Extremely Fine.
31 mm x 80 mm. This intricate badge is loaded with turn of the century charm featuring a pinback hanger surmounted by a spread wing eagle with the name of the recipient, JOHN H. BRENNAN, above a rescue scene, inscriptions PRESENTED TO above and FOR SAVING FROM DROWNING below the scene, the back stamped STERLING. Suspended from that is a figural piece of a rescue team in a rowboat attending to a victim. The lowest part of the badge is comprised of the V.L.S.C. logo with the Seal of New York at its center, the back inscribed EAST RIVER N.Y. / AUGUST 20, 1904 with the word STERLING stamped at the bottom.
