Description

Ancient Chinese Coins

(t) CHINA. Qing Dynasty. Fujian. 50 Cash, ND (ca. 1853-55). Fuzhou Mint. Emperor Wen Zong (Xian Feng). Graded "Authentic" by Zhong Qian Ping Ji Grading Company.

Hartill-22.795; FD-2525; S-1591. Weight: 84.1 gms. "Xian Feng zhong bao"; Reverse: "Wu shi"; Rim: "Er liang wu qian". This charming popular large-size cast issue exhibits bold well-formed high relief calligraphy, naturally rough surface texture in the open areas and rich chocolate brown patina offering much originality and a pleasing appearance. The rims contain five additional merchant chopmarks as frequently encountered on this provinces coinage of this period adding much character to this highly sought after issue. A few natural casting voids are noticed on both sides mentioned for accuracy, but are hardly a distraction for this massive cast Cash. This handsome survivor shows signs of handling with minor abrasions and bruising that one normally associates with these large issues adding to its character sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $ 3000.00 - 4000.00
