Engraved Coins, Love Tokens, and Coin Jewelry
Silver Engraving Practice Engraving Plate, 6” by 8”.
Engraved on only one side with multiple monograms and a border of the alphabet. Also engraved in the upper central area is PRESENTED TO / NATHAN HALE / APRIL 1, 1771. In the lower central area is engraved, ENGRAVING BY /ARTHUR C. HART. Each different engraving has a number engraved under it as if they were numbered assignments, which they may be. The “April 1, 1771” date is clearly an April Fool’s joke, as is the presentation to a famous Continental Army spy. It is however likely that the artist is Arthur C. Hart and was more likely done in the 1930s due to some of the stylistic renderings of the monograms and the very first engraving being the initials of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. An outstanding example of practice engraving.
