Description

Counterstamps

(large eagle) embossed on an 1840s Braided Hair large cent Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Good.

Eagle is embossed in high relief, reminiscent of the "pop out" coins that were popular in the 1890s. However, this is a different animal and certainly from an earlier time period. This was likely made by some sort of a seal press. Interesting!

From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.

Estimate: $ 175
