Description

Counterstamps

J + EYSTER in a serrated box punch on an 1810 Classic Head large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Poor.

This stamp may be the mark of John Eyster - Master Blacksmith working in York, PA in the 1860s and 70s. However the style of this somewhat primitive stamp and the early dated coin it is on is more likely from an earlier person, possibly a carpenter. More research is certainly needed.

From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection. Purchased from Andrew Harkness.

Estimate: $ 175
