Description

Counterstamps

G.G. CLARK in a box punch on an 1832 Matron Head large cent. Brunk C-510, HT-A424. Host coin Very Fine with light scratches on both sides and reverse corrosion.

A second example. George G. Clark was a silversmith working in Providence, RI from about 1813 through 1868 and is listed in the city directories during that time period. He also worked as a jeweler and cleaned and repaired watches. He is listed at 27 Cheapside in 1824. At one point he was in a partnership with Lorenzo D. Anthony as CLARK & ANTHONY and examples of their counterstamp are found on coins.
