Description

Washingtoniana

(ca. 1860) Washington-Franklin Medalet by Merriam. First Obverse. Musante GW-326, Baker-204. Greenslet GM-60. Copper. MS-64 BN (NGC).

32 mm. Even and attractive choice chocolate-brown with nicely reflective fields showing some golden toning. A beautiful medal, combining the Washington portrait die Merriam used on his Civil War dog tags with a fine portrait of Franklin. A few tiny specks are seen, all in non focal areas, and the portraits and fields are choice for the grade. An MS-65 BN (PCGS) example of this variety brought $1,080 in our November 2019 Baker offering.

Estimate: $ 600
