Description

Naval Medals

1814 Captain. Lewis Warrington War of 1812 Naval Medal. Julian NA-23. Bronze. MS-64 BN (NGC).

65 mm. A notable example of this popular War of 1812 medal, struck with a fully reflective finish on both sides. Pale blue and gold enlivens light brown surfaces, with good contrast between the frosted devices and prooflike fields. Struck from the original obverse and reverse dies, the reverse is now broken, with a cud from 9:00 to 10:30 and another from above 3:00 to 6:00. Only the most trivial hairlines require mention. On the 29th of March, 1814, Warrington's USS Peacock encountered the HMS Epervier off Cape Canaveral, Florida. Warrington and his crew successfully captured the Epervier and returned their prize to Savannah, Georgia, where the formerly British vessel joined the US Navy.

Estimate: $ 700
