Description

Panormus

SICILY. Piakos. AE Onkia (0.61 gms), ca. 420-400 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5.

CNS-III, p. 199, 3; SNG ANS-Unlisted; HGC-2, 1102. Obverse: Horned head of river god left; Reverse: Hound springing right; above, sprig with three oak leaves right. With just two examples of this VERY RARE denomination known to Calciati, it is easy to see how much consideration must be given to this diminutive piece no matter the surfaces. A great opportunity for a city and an example that scarcely present themselves.

Ex: Stack's (1/2010) Lot # 55.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
