1766 Contemporary Counterfeit Irish Halfpenny. George III Type--Double Struck--Extremely Fine.
95.6 grains. Second strike is about 50% off center, with two fully preserved dates, as have so many of the double strikes in this wonderful offering of error counterfeit halfpence and farthings. Glossy brown surfaces show smooth wear over some inherent, uneven planchet texture. A curious coin in that the primary strike appears to be VF, while the secondary strike appears to be EF, as it was protected from wear by the shelf created by the double striking.
