Pine Tree Shilling
1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-23, Salmon 8-C, W-875. Rarity-6. EF Details--Holed (PCGS).
69.59 grains. Although far from a perfect example, the scarcity of this die pairing is sure to result in keen interest for this coin among advanced collectors of Massachusetts Bay Colony silver. Dominant steel-gray patina with blended pewter highlights. The upper borders are soft, peripheral letters in those areas approximately half off the flan, although elsewhere we note pleasingly bold detail that readily upholds the validity of the EF grade from PCGS. The hole is fairly sizeable, if rather neatly executed at the top of the tree, the surfaces otherwise free of significant blemishes.
PCGS# 24. NGC ID: 2ARZ.
