Personal Medals
"1850" Henry Clay Memorial Medal. Electrotype. By Charles Cushing Wright. Julian PE-7. Bronze. About Uncirculated.
89 mm. Warmly toned in steely-bronze, this is a sharply defined example with essentially no rub to the design elements. There is light friction in the fields, and several scattered verdigris spots, the most prominent of which are on the reverse at the words INSTRUCTIONS and COMPROMISE. Struck in gold for the City of New York, then with a limited number of bronze examples struck and sold for the then-astronomical sum of $30 each. This electrotype is a pleasing alternative for today's collectors.
