1739 Admiral Vernon Fort Chagre Medal. Adams-Chao FCv 5-D, M-G 189, 190. Rarity-5. Bath Metal. VF Details--Tooled (PCGS).
39.6 mm. Presenting exceptionally well for the assigned grade, this piece is boldly defined at the VF level with handsome toning in even copper-brown. A curiously glossy texture and a few concentrations of faint scratches explain the PCGS qualifier. Whereas the McCormick-Goodhart reference divides this variety between two attributions, Adams and Chao see two die states of a single variety. The latter believe that this die pairing was executed by a less skilled engraver as a copy of the superior Fort Chagre designs seen on FCv 1-A through 4-C.
