PHILIPPINES. Barrilla, 1728. Manila Mint. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details Gold Shield.
KM-Pn2; Basso-1. Cast uniface Barilla with arms of Manila stamped in center. A VERY RARE and seldom encountered piece of early Philippines numismatics. Slight surface porosity with minor earthen deposits is par for the course for this issue which accounts for the details designation of "Environmental Damage". Despite its shortcomings a typical crudely manufactured issue with lots of charm. According to the Central Bank of the Philippines Quarterly Vol. II #1, this type was unknown until 1948, when the first specimen was found in the ruins of an old building in St. Tomas.
