Description

PERSIA. Achaemenidae. Time of Darios III, ca. 333-331 B.C. AV Double Daric (16.71 gms), Mint in Babylonia, ca. 333-331 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5.
BMC Arabia-pl. XX, 1; Sunrise-38. Obverse: Persian king or hero in kneeling-running stance right, holding dagger and bow; Reverse: Patterned incuse punch. Based upon the single daric pieces that were commonplace within the empire for the prior 200 years, this larger, double-sized issue from the time of Darios III is much more impressive and quite RARE . Lustrous and vibrant, with a good deal of detail remaining for its characterization merely as 'Ch VF.'
Estimate: $6000.00- $9000.00
