ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (6,56 gms), ca. 272-240 B.C. NGC MS, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5.
Vlasto-877-81; HN Italy-1033. Obverse: Warrior, holding shield and two spears, preparing to cast a third, on horse rearing right; ΔI to left, API ΣTO/KΛHΣ in two lines below; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding kantharos and trident, on dolphin left; to right, head of nymph left. Presenting no evidence of any actual wear, this sharply struck and pleasingly toned example exhibits a hint of shimmering gold accentuating the devices. SCARCE LY encountered this attractive and choice.
