Coin collectors will recognize MacNeil as the designer of the Standing Liberty quarter. This medal, not as well known, was issued jointly by the American Numismatic Society and the New-York Historical Society to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the purchase of Manhattan Island by the Dutch in 1626. The present example is numbered 20 on the edge, and is from a mintage of 100 bronze impressions.
