KM-36; Daniel-79. Purported mintage: 50,000. Thick Flan variety. A boldly struck and beautifully toned coin, a real delight to the eye. One bold "chopmark" has been applied, quite tastefully, to an area of the reverse field and does not impinge upon the design. Rather than detract from the beauty of the coin, it would seen to add a point of historical interest. According the scholarly work conducted by Mr. Howard Daniel III, covered in his book "Cambodia Coins and Currency" there are several distinct "chopmarks" that appear on these issues. Mr. Daniel speculates that these chops were applied between 1853-79 and consists of a sunburst type and at least two different Chinese calligraphy chops.
