Description

Edward VI (1547-53), fine silver Shilling, third period, Tower Mint, initial mark y, facing crowned bust in ermine robe, small rose to left, value to right touching inner linear and beaded circle, legend surrounding, EDWARD; VI; D; G; AGL; FRA; Z hIB; REX, rev. long cross fourchée over quartered shield, beaded circle and legend surrounding, POSVI DEVm: A DIVTORE mEVm: y:, 5.85g (N.1937; S.2482). Weak in parts perhaps once polished on reverse, almost very fine.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward the sixth by the Grace of God, King of England, France, and Ireland; and on the reverse "I have made God my Helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
