AU55 | Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1839, first young head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms within laurel wreath, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINIA FID: DEF:, edge milled, 7.99g (Marsh 23 R2; S.3852). About uncirculated example with strong residual lustre on reverse, very rare key date, graded by PCGS as AU55.

PCGS Certification 35161028.

Calendar Year Mintage 503,695.

The Latin legend on obverse translates as “Victoria by the Grace of God”, and on the reverse as “Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith”.
