Description

XF45 | William IV (1830-1837), gold Sovereign, 1837, second bare head right, W.W. incuse on truncation, GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D:, toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, ANNO 1837 below, edge milled (Bentley 32; Marsh 21; S.3829B). Very fine example with minimal marks and scratches despite grade, good residual mint lustre, graded by NGC as XF45.

Calendar Year Mintage 1,173,000.
The Latin legend on obverse translates as “William the Fourth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith”, and the inscription on the reverse as “Year 1837”.
