Description

AU58 | George III (1760-1820), gold Sovereign, 1820, open 2 in date, first laureate head right, date below, Latin legend commences lower left, GEORGIVS III D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F:D:, rev. St. George and dragon right, incuse BP below broken lance at lower left for designer and engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, garter motto surrounding, buckle with incuse WWP for Master of the Mint William Wellesley Pole, Old French motto HONI. SOIT. QUI. MAL. Y. PENSE., edge milled (Marsh 4; S.3785C). A pleasing example for its grade, sharply struck with some light lustre, certified by PCGS as AU58.

PCGS Certification 44309353.

Calendar Year Mintage 932,000.

The Latin legend on obverse translates as “George the Third by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith”, and the Old French motto on the reverse as “Shame on he who thinks ill of it”.
