Mexico, Charles III (1759-88), gold 8 Escudos, 1762 MM, Mexico City mint, draped and cuirassed bust right with ‘rat nose’, date below, Latin legend surrounding, CAROLUS. III. D. G. HISP. ET. IND. REX, rev. crowned shield within order chain, assayer’s mark and Mint letter below, Latin legend surrounding, IN. UTROQ. FELIX. AUSPICE. DEO., edge engrailed, 27.09g (KM-155; Onza 744). Some reddish deposits in recesses, minor scratches and contact marks, otherwise good very fine for issue, the rare first year of issue for this portrait type.
