PR70 DEEP CAMEO Papua New Guinea, gold proof 500 Kina, 2020, struck in 999.9 fine gold, design engraved after Otto Schultz, elaborate bird of paradise perched on branch, head turned left, fan of tail feathers above, beaded border, rev. emblem of Papua New Guinea, date to sides, legend PAPUA NEW GUINEA above, denomination below, 31.31g. A beautiful type, based on one of the most celebrated colonial designs of the 19th century, graded by PCGS as PR70 DEEP CAMEO.

Mintage: 400 pieces

First engraved in 1895 by Otto Schultz for the German colony of German New Guinea, the bird of paradise design was an instant numismatic icon and remains extremely popular today. This faithful successor to Schultz’s design is produced through the same Issuing Authority as the original 1895 type.
