An exceptional example of this currency Double Sovereign, fields almost entirely free from distracting marks or hairlines, fully lustrous with some splashes of deep red tone, graded by NGC as MS64.

The 1887 gold Two Pounds was only the second currency piece ever produced, with the previous being that dated 1823 in the reign of George IV; and was minted to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Victoria's reign. Of the 1,135 examples of this type graded by NGC and PCGS combined, just 15 coins have been given a higher numerical grade than the present offering putting this coin in the top 0.1 per cent of examples.
