Description

James I (1603-25), silver Shilling, third coinage (1619-25), sixth crowned bust right, value behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark trefoil (1624) both sides, IACOBVS D: G: MAG: BRI: FRA: ET HIB: REX, rev. quartered shield of arms, Latin legend without stops and beaded borders surrounding both sides, QVÆ DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET, 5.65g (N.2124; S.2668). Slightly double-struck on a large flan, a minor planchet flaw in the second quarter of the reverse shield, scratch in field in front of portrait, an unusually high-quality example with almost the appearance of a Fine Work piece, very fine with strong eye appeal.
