Great Britain, North Wales. Anglesey Parys Mines CU Penny Token. 1787. Druids Head within wreath / + WE PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ONE PENNY. DJ above Monogram of P M Co. date below. D&H:15. 29.00g, 34.00mm, 6h. Extremely Fine and better. Very Rare variety. The D was added to the die by Hancock after he received a drawing of the "D" from a Greenwich resident. D&H note that the D die piece did not circulate "but were given as presents." Samuel comments that "Specimens of this token were worth two guineas each in Pye's time." (Pye died in 1830.)
