Description

★ One of Two Known Examples ★

Thrace, Mesembria AR Tetradrachm. In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Circa 100-72 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left, holding sceptre; ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ to left, BΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to right, ΑΛΦΙ in inner left field, HPO on throne. Unpublished in the standard references (one other example known, pers. comm. F. de Callataÿ). 16.28g, 31mm, 12h.

Good Very Fine. Extremely Rare; apparently only the second known example.
