APPIANUS. De civilibus Romanorum bellis historiaru(m) libri quinq(ue)... Eiusdem autoris liber Illyrius et Celticus, Libycus et Syrius, Parthicus et Mithridaticus... Mainz, Johann Schöffer, 1529 Cm. 19,5, pp. (28) 723 (1). Frontispiece enriched by a beautiful architectural border with Schöffer's brand, the monogram "I.S." and beautiful decorated drop caps. On the reverse of the last card another beautiful engraving with the emblem of the impressor. Simple nineteenth-century half percalline binding and marbled paper plates. VERY RARE Specimen slightly trimmed on the high margin, with a small halo on the lower margin. Rade marginal notes ms. On the title page a couple of ancient notes ms. of possession and an expired religious library stamp. Moreover, complete well preserved specimen. This is the first edition of the Appiano printed in Germany. Much appreciated for the fascinating print quality for which the Schöffer printer became famous. Cfr. Adams A-1344 e Graesse I,169.
