Description

ANICH Peter & HUEBER Blasius. Tyrolis sub felici regime Mariae Theresiae... chorographice delineata... curante Ignat. Weinhart. Wien, 1774 In 4 nineteenth-century cases in cart. hard with titles handwritten on dowels containing all the parts applied on canvas of which the large chorographic paper of Tyrol engraved in copper is composed. The entire paper is made up of 20 parts divided into 180 cm segments. 19 x 15, so that the overall size is cm. 230 x 220. With large decorative cartouches. Specimen in excellent condition and with a very fresh inking. Some sections with a slightly lighter patina. The set is completed by an additional 58 x 44 cm paper which summarizes the larger copy in a smaller size. Famous cartographic company; the most fascinating representation of Tyrol known as "Atlas Tyrolensis". The paper designed by Peter Anich and Blasius Hueber is an evolutionary leap in cartographic science due to its innovation. In it are gathered the characteristics of beauty and decorativeness of the old papers together with the precision of the detection. It is considered to be the first topographically designed unitary map in Europe. To obtain this quality and precision the two "surveyors" worked for a long time in the field. From the moment when Maria Teresa of Austria decided to commission Anich to draft it to the moment when the Viennese engraver J.E. Mannsfeld found the definitive material to fix, draw and transfer to the cards, more than ten years passed. In the meantime, Anich's life had died out due to the extreme efforts and climatic conditions in which the meter had perhaps had to spend too much time. The excellent result achieved is given above all by the happy combination of attitudes which is summarized as follows: Anich excelled for precision and novelty of the means used in the measurement, Hueber for the plastic ability to make and collect travel stories for himself and others. Some of the letters written by Hueber during the survey period are exemplary to understand his attitude and of great interest for the knowledge of the peasant communities of the time. EXTREMELY RARE
