Justinian I. 527-565. Æ Follis 38 mm. 22.6 gm. Carthage mint, 6th officina. Dated RY 14 (540/1). Obv: DN IVSTINIANVS P P AVG, Helmeted and cuirassed facing bust, holding globus cruciger and shield; cross to right. Rev: Large M; cross above, A/N/N/O X/IIII across field; ς//CAR. DOC 293; MIBE 195; SB 261. Exceptionally well preserved early issue following the recovery of Carthage for the Roman Empire under general Belisarius in 534. Ex CNG 85, Sept. 2010, lot 1245.
