Description

PHYRYGIA, Apameia. Circa 100-50 BC. Æ (8.04 gm; 23 mm). Kokos, magistrate. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet / Eagle, with stars above and flanking, alighting on base of maeander pattern flanked by Caps of the Dioscuri; AΠAMEΩN above, KΩKOY below. SNG Copenhagen 161-2; BMC 78-82. Minor flan crack. Lovely style. Brown patina. Nicely centered. Choice Superb EF.
