LYDIA. Thyateira. Caracalla ( 198-217 AD). Ae. Medallion. Magistrate Aur. Glukonos Lucius. Obv: AYT KRA K M AYR ANTWNEINOC legend with laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: EPI CTR AYR GLYKWNOC legend around, LOYKIOY QYATEIRH-NWN in exergue, emperor, in military dress, on horseback, riding right, raising right hand; before him, Tyche, turreted, standing left, holding cult image of Apollo Tyrimneos who is holding laurel branch and bipennis.
The Roman Emperor Caracalla came to Thyateira in AD 214 and declared the city a regional administrative center (conventus) with jurisdiction. Caracalla stayed in the city for a few months and was loved by the locals. The most significant Medallion, which was later minted in memory of the emperor.
