★ Magnificent Tetradrachm of Philipp ★

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip V (221-179 BC). Tetradrachm. Pella or Amphipolis.

Obv: Diademed head right.
Rev: BAΣIΛEΥΣ ΦIΛIΠΠOY.
Athena Alkidemos, advancing left, shield decorated with star on arm, preparing to cast thunderbolt; ΣP monogram to inner left and EP to inner right.

Mamroth, Philip 1; SNG Alpha Bank 1050; SNG Saroglos 934; Gulbenkian 886; Kraay & Hirmer 577; Leu Numismatik AG 81/185 (same dies).

An outstanding Hellenistic Portrait struck on a Tetradrachm from Philip´s first series of silver coinage. Probably the best specimen of the type!

Condition: Extremely fine.
