★ Restitution Issue of Trajan or Hadrian ★

AUGUSTUS (27 BC-14 AD). Denarius. Rome. Restitution issue struck under Trajan or Hadrian (98-138).

Obv: CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE.
Laureate head right.
Rev: AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT / C L CAESARES.
Caius and Lucius Caesar standing facing; two shields and two sceptres between them; simpulum and lituus (with split end) above.

Part of a rare restitution series struck under Trajan or Hadrian, this piece features a more bulbous-shaped simpulum and a lituus with a split end, along with more refined features to the portrait of Augustus---all characteristics which are not seen on the prototype series.

Condition: Extremely fine.

Weight: 3.22 g.
Diameter: 19 mm.
