Description

KORKYRA. Korkyra. Roman rule (Circa 229-48 BC). Ae. Philotas, magistrate.

Obv: Jugate heads of Herakles, laureate, and Korkyra, wearing ivy wreath, right.
Rev: ΚΟΡΚΥΡΑΙΩΝ / ΦΙΛΩΤΑΣ.
Prow right; in exergue, trident and dolphin right.

SNG Copenhagen 241; BMC 557-60; HGC 6, 77.

Though dating to the period of Roman (Republic) rule in Korkyra, the features of Herakles on this particular example convey a very unusual and uncanny resemblance to Caracalla.

Condition: Good fine.
