Description

IONIA. Ephesos. Cistophor. T. Ampius T.f. Balbus (Proconsul, 58-57 BC). Hermias and Kaiystrios, magistrates. Dated year 77 (58/7 BC).

Obv: Cista mystica with serpent; all within ivy wreath.
Rev: T A - MPI T F / PRO - COS / ЄPMIAC/ KAIYCTPIOC.
Two serpents flanking tripod on which stands Apollo to left, holding branch in right hand, leaning left elbow on column Bowcase between two serpents. Controls: to left, OZ (date) above EΦE; above, Apollo standing left, holding branch and resting elbow upon column to right; torch to right.
