Description
Anonymous follis class A3 (Bronze, 26.7 mm, 7.74 g), time of Constantine VIII and Basil II (1020-1028). Overstruck on an earlier follis of Nicephorus II, type Sear 1783.
Obv: [+ЄMM]A - NOVH[Λ], bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger with cross in each limb, pallium and colobium, book of Gospels decorated with cross on cover in both hands, IC-XC illegible. Overstruck: legend of Nicephorus II.
Rev: [+IhSϤS] / XRISTϤS / bASILЄϤ / bASILЄ', legend in four lines, cross above and below illegible. Overstruck: part of inscription in four lines.
