A FINE ROMAN BRONZE STATUETTE OF VENUS
Circa 1st-2nd century AD.
Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, is shown nude but for a stephane atop her head. She stands in a relaxed stance, with her weight on her right leg and her left leg gently bent at the knee. She reaches upward with her left hand to adjust a strand of hair, in her right hand she held a mirror, admiring herself. With silver inlaid eyes! Left hand, mirror and both feet not preserved; a toned, deep scratch on the left leg.
