LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 400-340 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 7.71 g, 10 h). Head of Demeter facing to left, her hair bound by a net, wearing a double-curved earring and a simple pearl necklace. Rev. METAΠ Ear of barley with a leaf on the right; to right, above the leaf, Φ. BMC 130 (same dies). HN III 1546. Noe 520 (same dies). With a particularly elegant and noble head of Demeter of splendid late classical style. A scarce variety. Prominent scratch on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
